PROTEIN

The average person believes only bodybuilders take Whey protein because they want big muscles, I have been training people for over 15 years and woman amuse me the most when it comes to Whey protein, I always hear the same comment, “no I don’t want big muscles”, right, like it’s a can of muscles, well then maybe they shouldn’t eat chicken or fish because they also build muscle. Why do we need protein? Protein is an important nutrient needed by everyone of a daily basis. It is made up of essential and non-essential amino acids, which are the "building blocks" for healthy bodies. Protein has a number of different roles in the body including the following:

— Repair body cells
— Build and repair muscles and bones
— Provide a source of energy
— Control many of the important processes in the body related to metabolism

By adding whey protein to your diet is a great way to jump-start a weight loss program. Whey protein is a key ingredient in numerous weight loss and meal replacement products and whey protein isolate (with no fat or carbohydrates) is often the preferred choice. I have found that my clients who combine diets with rich protein foods, like whey protein, and exercise have more lean muscle tissue and they lose more body fat. As they lose fat their metabolic rate increases and they naturally burn more calories each day. Many of my clients inform me that they eat a lot of fish, chicken, eggs and beef. Why do they still need whey protein?
Healthy diets should regularly include high quality, low fat sources of protein, like whey protein. Calories do count and you want to make sure that you are getting the most benefit from the calories you consume. Compared to other proteins, on a gram-to-gram basis whey protein isolate delivers more essential amino acids to the body but without the fat or cholesterol. I recommend a diet with a variety of protein foods but for optimal results make sure that one of them is whey protein. So what is Whey protein, Whey protein is a high quality protein powder from cow's milk, it’s a co-product of the cheese making process.

The other great benefit of using Whey protein is time, our body needs protein throughout the day more than just the basic three meals that the average person eats. Its best to eat 4 or 5 smaller meals but most of us including me don’t have the time by supplementing with Whey protein powders I can easily consume 4 or 5 meals per day.

Still not convinced that you need more protein in your diet, lets take a look at the weight loss aspect.

Maintaining a healthy weight can add years to your life and help prevent weight related complications, including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Diet plays a key role in any weight management program and adding whey protein often helps make a positive difference. Here are some of the reasons why.

— The body requires more energy to digest protein than other foods and as a result you burn more calories after a protein meal.
— Whey protein isolate is pure protein with little to no fat or carbohydrates. It is a perfect complement to any low carbohydrate diet plan.
— High quality whey protein is rich in leucine to help preserve lean muscle tissue while promoting fat loss. Whey protein contains more leucine than milk protein, egg protein and soy protein.
— Protein helps to stabilize blood glucose levels by slowing the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream. This in turn reduces hunger by lowering insulin levels and making it easier for the body to burn fat.
— Adding whey protein to a mid-day snack or beverage provides healthy energy and may help control food intake at the next meal.

Ever since the popularity of the Atkins diet exploded, low-carb & high protein diets have been under fire from critics who say that eating very high levels of protein (three to four times the normal daily amount) would compromise the function of important organs such as the kidneys. Others claim high protein diets don't really help people lose weight.
The most important consideration in all this is: where do you get your protein? If you're getting your protein primarily by eating red meat, you're going to cause all sorts of other health problems (like heart disease) in your body due to the saturated fats found in red meat, the additive ingredients such as sodium nitrite, and the high concentration of pesticides and other potentially harmful contaminants such as mad cow disease. If you want to be healthy on a high protein diet, you must choose healthy sources of protein. What are the best sources? The best sources of protein are:

whey protein — a fantastic source of easily digestible protein.

spirulina — a superfood with outstanding protein content. Ounce for ounce, it offers twelve times more digestible protein than beef!

quinoa — the grain of the Incas, quinoa can replace wheat or rice in your cooking while offering a complete protein (something no other grain offers)

fish — fresh fish like salmon, orange roughy, shrimp and calamari are outstanding sources of low-fat protein. However, some harvesting methods (especially for shrimp) cause environmental damage. Furthermore, many fish from the sea are contaminated with high levels of mercury, making them a poor choice for daily consumption
